Lisbon, Portugal • Castelo São Jorge
October 8, 2006

Located East of the Baixa-Chaiado district and North of the Alfama district, the Castelo São Jorge dominates the old sections of Lisbon. Panoramic views of the city are exhilarating from most any direction. The castelo was captured from the Moors in 1147 and was transformed into the residence of the Portuguese kings. Made into ruins by the 1755 it was "restored" by Salazar beginning in 1938. Although not authentically medieval it is very charming and a pleasant place to stroll, relax and enjoy the spectacular views.
